SME Digital and Partners Reach Over 200 Entrepreneurs Through Two-Day Engagement Program in Fuvahmulah City
SME Digital and partners including Bank of Maldives and Fuvahmulah City Council concluded a two-day SME engagement program reaching over 200 entrepreneurs, promoting Islamic Micro Financing under MISFI. The team is now conducting follow-up engagement activities in Addu City from 13 to 18 June 2026.
A collaborative SME engagement program conducted in Fuvahmulah City by SME Digital, Bank of Maldives (BML), Business Center Corporation (BCC), Fuvahmulah City Council, and the Women's Development Committee (WDC) of Fuvahmulah was successfully concluded on 11th June 2026, reaching more than 200 entrepreneurs and aspiring business owners across the city.
The two-day program was organised as part of ongoing efforts to improve access to financing, business support services, and entrepreneurship opportunities for SMEs and aspiring entrepreneurs in Fuvahmulah City, bringing together multiple stakeholders under a shared commitment to strengthening the local business community.
A Focus on Islamic Micro Financing
A key focus of the program was promoting Islamic Micro Financing, introduced by Bank of Maldives under the Maldives Islamic Social Finance Initiative (MISFI), for which applications are currently being accepted by SME Digital. The initiative aims to improve access to financing for underserved entrepreneurs and individuals seeking to start or expand small businesses, helping bridge the gap between those who have historically struggled to access formal financial services and the support they need to grow.
A Comprehensive Program of Support
The program featured a comprehensive range of activities including financial literacy sessions, business support information, one-to-one consultations, and on-site processing of financing applications, ensuring participants received not just information but direct, actionable support. Through these various activities, more than 200 entrepreneurs, aspiring business owners, and members of the local business community were engaged and provided with direct access to information, guidance, and support from the participating organisations.
Continuing Engagement in Addu City
Following the successful completion of the program in Fuvahmulah City, SME Digital teams are currently conducting a series of stakeholder meetings and customer engagement activities in Addu City from 13th to 18th June 2026. The visit includes meetings with local councils, NGOs, and prospective entrepreneurs to promote financing opportunities and explore avenues for collaboration in supporting SME development, extending the momentum built in Fuvahmulah to another key community in the south of the Maldives.
These engagements reflect the continued and shared commitment of the participating organisations to strengthening entrepreneurship, enhancing financial inclusion, and supporting the sustainable growth of SMEs across the Maldives, reinforcing the broader nationwide effort to ensure that businesses in every region have access to the financial support they need to thrive.
