Ooredoo Group Unveils Al Abraj as Qatar's Standalone Tower Infrastructure Company and Names Khalid Barzak as General Director

Ooredoo Group has officially launched Al Abraj, a newly established standalone company that will independently operate and manage Ooredoo Qatar's passive tower infrastructure assets in the country, marking a pivotal milestone in the group's strategic portfolio optimisation journey.

The launch follows the receipt of all necessary regulatory approvals in Qatar, including the green light from the Communications Regulatory Authority (CRA), and represents the first operational carve-out under Ooredoo's TowerCo initiative, a key component of the group's broader strategy to unlock value from its infrastructure assets and sharpen its operational focus.

Alongside the launch, Ooredoo has announced the appointment of Khalid Barzak as General Director of Al Abraj, placing an experienced and proven leader at the helm of the new entity as it embarks on its next phase of growth and development.

A Leader Built for the Role

Khalid Barzak brings more than two decades of leadership experience to the position, including 16 years in the telecommunications sector. During his tenure at Ooredoo Group, Khalid has held a wide range of senior leadership positions spanning telecommunications, digital services, investments, and partnerships, building a broad and deep expertise that equips him well for the challenges and opportunities ahead.

Notably, Khalid played a central role in driving the growth and turnaround of Ooredoo's digital services and partnerships businesses, which today represent a meaningful and growing contributor to overall group profitability, demonstrating his ability to identify opportunity, execute strategy, and deliver measurable commercial results.

In his new role leading Al Abraj, Khalid will focus on operational excellence, value creation, and supporting the long-term growth of Ooredoo's tower infrastructure platform, laying the foundations for Al Abraj to become a leading and sustainable tower company in Qatar and beyond.

Regulatory Appreciation and Board Congratulations

On behalf of the Board of Directors, Ooredoo extended its sincere thanks to the various regulatory authorities in Qatar for their support and collaboration throughout the approval process, recognising the important role played by the CRA and other bodies in enabling the timely launch of Al Abraj.

The Board also extended its warmest congratulations to Khalid Barzak on his appointment, wishing him every success as he leads Al Abraj through this exciting new chapter in Ooredoo's infrastructure story.
