Minister Moosa Zameer Delivers Keynote at 8th Asia Initiative Meeting in Malé

Minister of Finance and Planning, Moosa Zameer, delivered the keynote address at the 8th Asia Initiative Meeting held in Malé, where he reaffirmed the Maldives’ commitment to international tax cooperation, transparency, and sustainable economic development.

The Asia Initiative, a platform under the Global Forum on Transparency and Exchange of Information for Tax Purposes, brings together countries in the region to strengthen domestic resource mobilization through tax transparency and information exchange.

In his address, Minister Zameer highlighted the Maldives’ active role as Co-Chair of the Asia Initiative, emphasizing the importance of capacity building, inclusive dialogue, and collaboration among member countries. He stated that building stronger tax systems is essential to supporting national priorities such as climate adaptation, education, and healthcare.

The Minister also underlined the Maldives’ progress in tax policy reforms and its dedication to fostering a transparent and accountable tax environment. He noted that the country’s participation in international frameworks is part of a broader strategy to enhance fiscal sustainability and resilience.

The 8th Asia Initiative Meeting brought together senior government officials, tax administrators, and international experts to discuss regional priorities and cooperation strategies in tax policy and administration. The meeting aimed to enhance technical capabilities and ensure that countries in Asia are well-equipped to meet global standards in tax transparency and cooperation.

Minister Zameer concluded by reaffirming the Maldives’ commitment to strengthening multilateral engagement and supporting the Asia Initiative’s mission to mobilize resources and promote sustainable development across the region.
