The VilunVeshi Grant Program has launched to support climate resilience, food security, and innovation in the Maldives, implemented by MOCCEE, ADB, and SME Digital. The current phase offers Individual Micro Grants to 50 selected grantees from 150 applications, opening 23 July 2026 via www.smedigital.mv.
The Ministry of Climate Change, Environment and Energy (MOCCEE), with support from the Asian Development Bank (ADB), in collaboration with SME Digital, has launched the VilunVeshi Grant Program, a significant new initiative aimed at building climate resilience and creating sustainable economic opportunities for communities across the Maldives.
The program was officially launched at the "Advancing the National Adaptation Plan of the Maldives" forum, marking a meaningful milestone in the nation's broader climate adaptation efforts.
Part of a Multi-Phase Climate Resilience Initiative
The grant program is being implemented under the Enhancing Climate Resilience and Food Security Project (ECRFS), a multi-phase initiative aimed at building climate resilience while creating sustainable economic opportunities for communities nationwide. The program is structured into three grant phases:
- Individual Micro Grants
- Community and SME Grants
- Institutional Demonstration Projects
Together, these phases aim to strengthen climate-resilient livelihoods, improve food security, promote innovation, and support value-chain development across the Maldives, addressing multiple interconnected challenges through a structured and coordinated approach.
Empowering Communities to Drive Change
Commenting on the launch, Badhurudheen Hassan, CEO of SME Digital, said, "VilunVeshi Grant Program is an important opportunity to support innovative initiatives that contribute to climate resilience, food security, and sustainable economic development. Through this program, we aim to empower individuals and communities to implement practical solutions that create income-generating opportunities, strengthen local livelihoods, and deliver long-term benefits. We are delighted to support beneficiaries in transforming their ideas into impactful and sustainable outcomes."
