The Maldives has been named Indian Ocean's Leading Destination 2025 and Indian Ocean's Leading Green Destination 2025 at the World Travel Awards.

Maldives has once again solidified its reputation as a world-class travel destination, securing two prestigious titles in the 2025 World Travel Awards (WTA) for the Indian Ocean category. The accolades were presented at the WTA Africa & Indian Ocean Gala Ceremony held on 28th June 2025 at the Johari Rotana in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

Representing the country at the ceremony, CEO and Managing Director of Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC/Visit Maldives), Ibrahim Shiuree, accepted the awards on behalf of the nation.

The Maldives was named Indian Ocean’s Leading Destination 2025, marking its sixth consecutive win in this category since 2020. In addition, the country also secured the title of Indian Ocean’s Leading Green Destination 2025, following its debut win in this category in 2024.

The World Travel Awards, established in 1993, are regarded as one of the most prestigious recognition platforms in global tourism. The awards aim to celebrate excellence across the travel, tourism, and hospitality industries worldwide.

Commenting on the recognition, MMPRC CEO & MD Ibrahim Shiuree stated, “These awards reaffirm the Maldives’ status as an exceptional travel destination and highlight the tireless efforts of our tourism industry.
