Minister of Finance and Planning, Moosa Zameer, met with senior officials from the China Export & Credit Insurance Corporation (SINOSURE) today, as part of his official engagements on the sidelines of the 10th Annual Meeting of the AIIB Board of Governors, currently underway in Beijing.

The meeting aimed to enhance cooperation between the Maldives and China in the area of development financing and project insurance. Minister Zameer was accompanied by Dr. Fazeel Najeeb, Ambassador of the Maldives to China; Ali Sajid Shakir and Mizna Waheed, Second Secretaries at the Maldives Embassy in China; and Rauha Ibrahim, Resource Mobilization Analyst at the Ministry of Finance and Planning.

The SINOSURE delegation was led by President Sheng Hetai, and included Wang Xu, General Manager of the Project Insurance Post-Underwriting Department; Li Zhibo, General Manager of the Project Insurance Underwriting Department; and Wang Yan, Deputy General Manager of Business Development and Client Services.

During the meeting, Minister Zameer extended warm greetings from President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu and expressed appreciation for China’s ongoing partnership and support. He highlighted the outcomes of President Muizzu’s recent state visit to China, emphasizing the renewed commitment between the two nations to strengthen high-level bilateral ties.

Minister Zameer also briefed the SINOSURE team on the Maldivian government’s fiscal reform agenda and its focus on improving economic sustainability. He noted that these reforms are critical to enhancing the country’s ability to manage public finances effectively and to support key infrastructure and social projects.

Discussions also touched on the Maldives' interest in pursuing additional development initiatives in collaboration with Chinese financial institutions. Minister Zameer emphasized the government’s strategic approach to public investment, aimed at boosting economic resilience and improving the quality of life for citizens.
