Bank of Maldives has partnered with Special Olympics Maldives to support inclusive sports for over 500 athletes with intellectual disabilities. BML will fund training, health initiatives, leadership programmes, and international representation, reinforcing its commitment to equal opportunity and inclusive community participation across the Maldives.
Bank of Maldives has announced a meaningful new partnership with Special Olympics Maldives (SOM), joining forces with the national organisation to champion inclusivity in sports and expand opportunities for athletes with intellectual disabilities across the Maldives.
The partnership reflects the bank's continued and deeply held commitment to promoting equal opportunities, community participation, and the belief that every individual, regardless of ability, deserves the chance to compete, grow, and thrive.
Under the agreement, Bank of Maldives will extend its support across a broad spectrum of SOM's programmes and activities, covering training, health initiatives, family engagement, leadership programmes, and international representation, as well as community engagement events. The partnership is set to directly benefit over 500 registered athletes currently participating in SOM's programmes across the country, giving them greater resources and opportunities to pursue their sporting ambitions.
Special Olympics Maldives serves as the national affiliate of the global Special Olympics movement, an organisation dedicated to empowering children and young people with intellectual disabilities through year-round sports training and competition. Through its inclusive sporting programmes, SOM helps athletes build confidence, improve physical fitness, and develop essential life skills, while fostering a culture of acceptance, dignity, and equal opportunity within communities across the Maldives.
The partnership with Special Olympics Maldives adds another important chapter to Bank of Maldives' longstanding commitment to sports development in the country. Through national initiatives, strategic partnerships, and community programmes, BML has consistently worked to promote youth participation and ensure that access to sport is truly inclusive and available to all.
