Ooredoo Group's Syntys Acquires Q Data Facilities in Qatar, Adding 12.5MW of Hyperscale Capacity in Strategic Digital Infrastructure Move

Ooredoo Group and Syntys have announced the successful acquisition of Q Data QFZ LLC by Syntys, bringing 12.5 megawatts of hyperscale data centre capacity under Syntys' ownership in Qatar and marking a major step forward in the group's strategy to build world-class digital infrastructure across the region.

Q Data QFZ LLC operates hyperscale data centre facilities in Qatar serving leading cloud and artificial intelligence customers, with 5MW currently live and a further 7.5MW under active development. The transaction transfers ownership of two Tier III-certified, carrier-neutral facilities situated within the Qatar Free Zones, with the seller being Doha Venture Capital, a subsidiary of the Qatar Free Zones Authority. The acquisition brings Syntys' total live IT capacity in Qatar to an impressive 26MW.

Meeting the Surge in Hyperscale Demand

The acquisition comes in direct response to accelerating deployment requirements from hyperscale cloud providers and artificial intelligence platform operators across the Gulf region, where available data centre capacity remains significantly constrained relative to rapidly growing demand. The transaction also supports Qatar's national digital economy objectives by anchoring critical hyperscale infrastructure within a Qatar-headquartered data centre platform focused on mission-critical cloud and AI services.

Leadership Voices

Commenting on the strategic significance of the deal, Aziz Aluthman Fakhroo, Group CEO of Ooredoo, said, "This acquisition directly aligns with Ooredoo Group's strategic focus on investing in critical digital infrastructure and enabling sovereign AI and cloud services across the region. By integrating Q Data's hyperscale facilities into Syntys, we reinforce Syntys' ability to serve the world's leading cloud and AI providers while delivering sustainable value for our shareholders."

Syntys CEO Sunita Bottse highlighted the quality of the assets acquired and the broader expansion ambitions they support. "Q Data brings proven, revenue-generating assets that meet the rigorous standards our clients demand. By integrating these facilities into the Syntys platform, we expand our capacity in Qatar with internationally recognised, Tier III-certified, carrier-neutral infrastructure tailored to the needs of hyperscale and AI customers," she said.

Bottse also outlined how the acquisition fits into Syntys' wider regional growth plan. "We're executing a disciplined plan to reach more than 120MW of installed capacity across MENA by 2030. This acquisition advances that strategy by integrating established, cash-generating assets that strengthen our presence in a critical market," she added.

A Platform Built for the Future

The acquisition further cements Syntys' position as a leading carrier-neutral infrastructure provider for global cloud and AI platforms operating in Qatar. Syntys was established through the carve-out of Ooredoo Group's regional data centre operations and currently operates facilities across multiple markets in MENA and beyond.

The deal also complements Ooredoo Group's broader digital infrastructure portfolio, which includes the sovereign AI cloud launched in 2025, providing public and private institutions in Qatar with local access to advanced compute services and positioning the group as a key enabler of the region's digital and AI-driven future.
