Bank of Maldives Donates 30 More Wheelchairs, Bringing Total to Over 360 Across 105 Islands Since 2017

Bank of Maldives (BML) has announced the donation of 30 additional wheelchairs, marking the continuation of its annual initiative to support people with mobility impairments and improve quality of life for individuals and families across the Maldives.

Since the programme's inception in 2017, BML has now successfully delivered over 360 wheelchairs to individuals living on more than 105 islands nationwide, making it one of the most far-reaching and impactful community health initiatives undertaken by any financial institution in the country.

Expanding the Scope for Greater Inclusivity

This year, Bank of Maldives has taken a meaningful step forward by strategically expanding the scope of the programme to ensure it meets a broader range of mobility needs. In addition to motorised wheelchairs designed for individuals who can operate them independently, BML has introduced specialised manual wheelchairs specifically tailored for children and adults who rely on caregivers and family members for their daily mobility, ensuring that no one is left behind regardless of the nature of their mobility challenge.

The addition of caregiver-assisted wheelchairs reflects a deeper understanding of the diverse needs within the disability community and demonstrates BML's commitment to designing its social initiatives with genuine inclusivity at their core.

The programme reflects Bank of Maldives' enduring commitment to community health and corporate social responsibility, and its belief that enhancing the independence and quality of life of individuals with mobility impairments, and by extension that of their families, is a cause worthy of sustained and meaningful investment year after year.
